IBPS Probationary Officers Exam has replaced the Bank PO exam for the recruitments of Probationary Officers or Management Trainees. Most of the banks now recruiting candidates through the IBPS PO exam. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts this exam. The test is accepted and approved by most of the 20 participating Public Sector Banks and the Managing Committee of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).

Eligibility of IBPS Probationary Officers Exam

Aspiring candidates should have completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline or its equivalent from a recognized university board or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

The age of candidates should be between 20 to 30 years of age at the time of recruitment. Relaxation in age will be given as per the present rules the time.

Syllabus of IBPS PO Exam

The syllabus of the exam is as follows:

  • English Language
  • General Awareness and Computer Knowledge
  • Numerical Ability
  • Reasoning

The pattern of IBPS PO Exam
The exam mainly comprises two stages namely Preliminary Exam and Main Exams with MCQs.

Preliminary Exam – It consists of 100 MCQs from various subjects. The duration is 1 hour.

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Reasoning Ability

Main Exam – It comprises 200 MCQs and to be completed in 3 hours.

  • Data Analysis & Interpretation
  • English Language
  • General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness
  • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude
  • English Language (Letter Writing & Essay)

Note: There is negative marking (0.25) for each wrong response.

IBPS PO Exam Cut-off – The cut-off marks to qualify will be decided based on the average (average – ¼ standard deviation for general category candidates and average – ¾ standard deviation for reserved category candidates).

GD and Interview – The successful candidates will be called for interview. After that, the final merit will be prepared.

IBPS PO Exam Dates
The exam is normally held in the months of October (Prelims) and November (Mains) tentatively.

Application Fee for IBPS PO Examination
The exam fees are as follows.

  • For SC/ST/PWD candidates – Rs.100/-
  • For all others – Rs.600/-

Note: The fees may vary from time to time.
